About the Course

In this continuation of Part 1, Dr Sonya Miles BVSc CertAVP(ZM) CertAqV MRCVS explores advanced concepts in exotic species hospital care, including temperature control, humidity management, oxygen therapy, and the safe use of Vetario incubators. The lecture focuses on clinical reasoning behind incubator use, particularly for debilitated, hypothermic, post-anaesthetic, and respiratory-compromised patients. Delegates will learn how to assess thermoneutral ranges, avoid thermal injury, provide species-appropriate humidity, administer supplemental oxygen, and implement nebulisation therapy for respiratory disease. The session also covers the limitations of incubators for reptiles and highlights alternative housing solutions for poikilothermic species. By the end of the lecture, clinicians will be able to confidently deliver tailored supportive care, recognise species-specific vulnerabilities, and implement protocols that promote safe and effective recovery for exotic patients. This is a 30-minute RACE approved course for 0.5 CE Credits.
